Directions: Watch and listen to a conversation between Sanjeev and Meera Patel.
NARRATOR: Meet Sanjeev and Meera Patel. They are a married couple from Bangalore, India. They plan to move from India to the U.S. for one year. The couple will live in the San Francisco Bay Area in northern California. Sanjeev will work for a U.S. company called McKay Designs.
SANJEEV: Meera, how do you feel about living in the U.S.?
MEERA: To be honest, I have mixed feelings. I'm excited, but I'm also a little nervous.
SANJEEV: I understand. I'm a little nervous too. What are you worried about?
MEERA: I'm a little concerned about being so far away from our parents. A year is a long time to be away.
SANJEEV: I know, but our parents can come visit us. There are a lot of things to do in the Bay Area. We can show them around San Francisco.
MEERA: Yes, there's so much to see in California. I'm excited about sightseeing.
SANJEEV: Think about it. We can go sightseeing in San Francisco, camping in Yosemite National Park, and driving along the coast. We're really going to have a great time.
MEERA: I know, and working in Silicon Valley is great for your future.
SANJEEV: You're right, I'll be able to learn a lot more about the computer industry.
MEERA: Are the plans for the trip complete?
SANJEEV: Yes. The company made hotel reservations for us. It also sent us a welcome packet with information about the San Francisco Bay Area.
MEERA: That's good. I think you're right. This is going to be really fun.

Directions:
Read the information that Sanjeev's company, McKay Designs, sent him about the San Francisco Bay Area, in California.

Shopping
You have many shopping choices in the Bay Area. In the south, Gilroy is a great place to find good prices. Further north, Palo Alto has the Stanford Shopping Center, next to Stanford University. Of course a shopping trip is not complete without a trip to Union Square in downtown San Francisco.

Outdoor Activities
There are many things to do in the Bay Area. You can hike, climb, swim, surf, or just drive along the coast on Highway 1. Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park are both within three hours of the Bay Area by car. In the summer, Yosemite is very busy, so you need to make camping reservations early.

Sightseeing and Events
There are many things to see in the Bay Area. The Golden Gate Bridge is the most famous sight. Architecture and art lovers enjoy the Palace of Fine Arts and the Museum of Modern Art. There are also many things to do here. In the summer, there are free concerts and other events in Golden Gate Park.

Climate
The temperature in the Bay Area depends on the location. In Silicon Valley, the temperatures are generally mild in the winter (50-60 degrees Fahrenheit) and warm in the summer (70-80 degrees Fahrenheit). On the coast, the temperature is usually 10-20 degrees cooler. San Francisco is famous for fog, particularly in the summer.
