English Explanations

Review these subject pronouns and the verb be. The form for statements is subject + verb. Note the short forms.

Example:

You’re beaitiful

I’m happy

We’re in love

They’re crazy

There are two main types of questions in English: yes/no questions and questions with question words. Yes/no questions are questions that you can answer with yes or no. To form a yes/no question with the verb be put the correct form of be before the subject.

Example:

Am I beautiful? _ Yes, you are

Is he kink?

Are they crazy?

Questions with question words ask for information about a thing (what), person (who), time (when), place (where), reason (why), and process or quality (how). The form is question word + am/is/are + subject. You can shorten is to 's.

Example:

What’s your name? _ I’m Linda, and you?

What’s his name?

Why are you sad? _ I’m sab because I don’t have cat
